Cheap Politics: TDP and Co Are Busy Spreading Fake News

Published on

As elections draw nearer, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its allies have intensified their attack on the YSRCP with false allegations. Both on the ground and on social media, they are striving to disseminate misinformation to sway public opinion in favour of the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance. In this order, they are using every possible means to throw stones at the government. Recently, former IAS officer PV Ramesh also joined the fray, levelling baseless accusations against the YSRCP government regarding the Land Titling Act.

PV Ramesh Exposed…

PV Ramesh made a tweet mentioning himself as a victim of the ‘Land Titling Act’ in Andhra Pradesh. He alleged that revenue officers rejected the mutation of his parents’ land onto his name, which is in Vinnakota Mandal, Krishna district. He claimed that the Tehsildar rejected his application, and the RDO returned his documents without opening them. At the beginning of the tweet, Ramesh claimed himself as a victim of the Land Titling Act. Hypocritically, in the same tweet, he mentioned the complete opposite. He stated that his rights to his parents’ lands had been rejected even before the act came into force. He further added that, as an IAS officer with 36 years of service for Andhra Pradesh, if he faces this kind of situation, then what about common farmers?

PV Ramesh himself stated in the tweet that the act had not yet been enforced. How, then, can he claim to be a victim of the Land Titling Act? Netizens are questioning this, accusing him of spreading fake news to favor the TDP in elections. PV Ramesh recently shared the stage of the Citizens for Democracy forum, which is run by retired IAS officer Nimmagadda Ramesh, known to be a supporter of CBN. On that stage, PV Ramesh reiterated the same allegations.

TDP and Yellow Media Spreading Fake News

TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu has based his entire election campaign on cornering the YSRCP over the Land Titling Act. His favored media are fabricating stories and spreading them against the YSRCP government. However, videos have surfaced showing TDP MLA Payyavula Keshav stating in the past, in the assembly, that this act is the need of the hour and that the Central government instructed all states to implement it. One of the ETV channels, ‘Etv Annadata,’ also aired a bulletin on the Land Titling Act, stating that it would provide great assurance for landowners.

TDP has failed to corner the YSRCP as there are no substantial grounds for blaming the government. As TDP has realized this, it has now shifted its focus to blaming the government for the Land Titling Act. However, it seems that this strategy will also backfire on the TDP, which is likely to be reflected in the upcoming election results.
