Andhra Pradesh will go to polls for both Assembly and Lok Sabha on May 13, 2024, as announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Delhi on Saturday. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the schedule for the mammoth exercise for the Lok Sabha elections which will also see four states voting for their Assemblies. June 4, 2024 has been decided as the ‘D-Day’ for the counting and declaration of results for all the phases of polls.

As part of the schedule, elections to the Assembly and Lok Sabha in Andhra Pradesh will be held in the fourth phase, out of a total of seven phases. This goes contrary to earlier expectations and the tradition followed in the 2019 election where polling in Andhra Pradesh was held in the first phase itself. Consequently, the elections in the state for both Assembly and Lok Sabha will be conducted in one go on May 13, 2024 which, incidentally, will also be the date for Parliamentary elections in Telangana.

Accordingly, the election notification for this phase of the poll will be issued by the ECI on April 18, 2024. This effectively leaves all the contending political parties in the state with a 68-day window from now to sharpen their strategies and swing into serious campaigning mode. As per the schedule, the election notification will be issued on April 18, 2024 for Andhra Pradesh while April 25 has been set as the last date for filing of nominations. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 26 while April 29 has been set as the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Once the polling is done and dusted, the candidates will however have to wait with bated breath for another 22 days till June 4, 2024 to know their fate.

In 2019, the simultaneous elections for Assembly and Lok Sabha in Andhra Pradesh were conducted on April 11.
